IO collection

[ 2020 ]

Offering a different perspective on sustainability, designer Lars Beller Fjetland’s Io collection embodies Beller’s core philosophy: that meaningful relationships between objects and their users prolong a product’s lifespan.

“My main goal has always been to create furniture that people happily want to care for and even pass down to the next generation.”

Expressional and friendly in form and character, the Io tables carry a calm yet distinct presence; subtle but nevertheless assertive

“The Io collection is the result of playing with form, colors and surfaces that have an emotional impact on me as a designer, elevating the tables from being mere matter to everyday companions”

Lars on process:

“The team at Ercol know their way around wood, which became evident as we toured the factory. The scale and pace of the production exceeded my expectations and I was particularly impressed by how successfully they were able to merge traditional craftmanship with modern technology. I decided to challenge their production by incorporating details that required a flawless execution and was somewhat surprised that the product developers fully embraced the challenge.

The end result is a true testament to their ingenuity and problem-solving skills. We managed to incorporate at least three small innovations into the finished design which would never have seen the light of day without real teamwork. Its been an absolute pleasure working with everyone at Ercol and I hope and believe that this project marks the start of a long and prosperous collaboration.

The delicate yet intricate leg detail came to life through close collaboration with the skilled team at L.Ercolani.”
